Supporting the belief that children’s books and literacy are life-changers, Children’s Book week is over one hundred years old. The longest-running national literacy initiative in the country, Children’s Book Week runs Nov 4th to 10th in schools, libraries, bookstores, and at home. The 2024 Children’s Book Week splits across two dedicated weeks, the original in May (6-12) and the current November (4-10).
Founded 1913 by In 1913, Franklin K. Matthiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, Children’s Book Week gained support from publishers, booksellers, and librarians.
This year’s official 2024 Children’s Book Week poster comes form artist Sophie Blackall, award-winning illustrator and author. The poster features this year’s Children’s Book Week slogan, “No Rules. Just Read.”
